What I Live For

You can hear it here.

Some songs arrive fully formed, others are lived through.

“What I Live For”, is the latter, forged over fifteen years of personal evolution, fragments of insight, and lyrical resurrection.

“What I Live For” clocks in at 7:08.

Musically conceived on December 26th, 2021, the song underwent “small updates and redos,” as scribbled in the original margin notes, until its final version crystallized between March 17 and March 27, 2025.

But its roots go far deeper.

The lyrical DNA of “What I Live For” is a mosaic of past inspirations, some dating back over a decade:
– May 25, 2010: The haunting phrase “Hide From the Sun” emerged, an early whisper of the song’s existential tension, later expanded with the evocative line “Fall off the carousel, it comes down to this.”
December 14, 2013: A line from a rough cut titled “Living To Kill Time” hinted at the intensity that would become central to the final track.
August 8, 2016: An embryonic version titled “Higher”, morphed to “Running Through the Fire” and it was recorded into a journal as recently as January 1, 2023, showing the persistence of the theme through name and form. This was the working title, until I came across a journal from 2018 and I saw what I needed to see.
January 25, 2018: The line “See Life For Me” was born, a lyrical cousin to “What I Live For”.

The final title took shape on March 23, 2023, when the song was officially dubbed “What I Live For”, distilling over a decade of searching, surviving, and artistic wandering into one focused question: What drives you when everything else falls away?

“What I Live For” isn’t just a song, it’s a vault. Inside are years of lyric drafts, titles that never made it, and themes that wouldn’t die. It’s proof that the best songs aren’t always written in one sitting, they’re revealed over time, through scars and flashes of clarity.

The track took years to define and maybe, just maybe, speaks to what you live for, too.

Crank it.
