You can hear the song here.
“Sky of the Soul” was originally called “Haven in the Sky”.
The first version of it was recorded around June/July 1995 on my trusted Toshiba cassette deck.

It was then played live in 1996 and recorded in a studio in 1997, but never released.
The recording sat in my archives for a long time.

I’ve always had the intention to re-record it but I had to change the title from “Haven In The Sky” as it was too close to “Homes In The Sky”, which is a song I wrote and released a few years back.
Musically the structure is the same from that 1995 version albeit a few edits. The lyrics are completely different but the theme is still the same, about escaping to a place within to be whoever you want to be.
In other words, the “haven” is a place within a persons soul, like a secret place, which is always there for the person and it never betrays. A true friend.
I started doing the basic recording of the song on 8th February, 2022. I listened to the draft and found that the tempo was set way to fast.
I wasn’t aware when I originally wrote it in 1995, I had three different tempos in the song so trying to create that fluidity in Logic Pro meant I had to watch some YouTube videos on tempos. It’s easy to do now.

So on September 7, 2022, I slowed the tempo down in the Intro and re-recorded it. I was happy with the other tempos in the main section and the interlude section of the song.
I did some more musical work on it on 19 April 2023.
Then in August 2023, it really came on the radar.
If was fun to revisit this song and update it for an official release, 28 years after it was first demoed.
Crank it.
