A Lifeline Appears

You can hear it here.

It was called “Djent” to start off with, but with the constant re-writes and edits, it became what it became.

Actually there is nothing “Djent” about it anymore, except the riff I called the “Thunder Riff” in the Chorus. Well that riff was also a bit mathy before I 4/4 it.

27 March 2023.

It was when I started to write it and by 3 April 2023 I had the first demo.

It had a synth like lead, more electronica than the guitar heavy sad song it became.

But I kept on writing and editing.

By 5 April 2023, I had a new version which was totally different from the March version, almost a complete rewrite. This is the version that the “Thunder Riff “made its first appearance. It also had a Tool vibe, which I sort of lost as I started to work up the song.

I was feeling lonely at the time I was writing the song and the music conveys it.

But after that mad writing rush in April, I hit a brick wall with it and the song sat there for a while.

Then on 5 December 2023, a new work file was created called: “Djent with Big Edits”. This is the version that ended up getting finished and released.

I was stuck for a title but I started to write lyrics for the verses.

I had a hook for the words “A lifeline appears, dark mirrors of another” and I kept singing it over every riff in the song.

Then I was going through the earlier lyrical draft of songs and I came across some great material from 2004, 2005 and 2010. Here is a picture of the re-write madness.

When I came up with “A Lifeline Appears”, it is alluding to the life lines on our palms but it can be interpreted in any way you like.

Anyway, let the music do the talking.

Crank it up.
