The creation of this song goes back to 24 December 2014 when I wrote the first set of lyrics.
I was reading a lot of articles at the time on piracy. I worked in IT and was surprised at how much development and innovation was happening in the piracy sphere. These people should of been employed by the Copyright industries.
But, the Copyright Industries decided to chase and arrest them. The RIAA and the MPAA had an ear at the US Justice Department and they basically used law and enforcement as their own tools of censorship.
You would get officers raiding houses and warehouses to stop piracy. They would used an IP address to zero in on a residence. You can tell this has disaster all over it.
They took away a young girls Winnie The Pooh computer and they arrested 80 year olds. It’s pretty easy to understand that IP address are not the best indicators to locate pirates.
Meanwhile the people involved in piracy just kept on innovating and evolving.
And “Defiant To The End” was born.
The first musical draft was created on 30 December 2014, which was just the basic chords.
I had the Intro with the leads and the Interlude with the leads created and recorded on 4 April 2015.
And the song remained dormant until I did some work on it in January 2022.
I was writing riffs for the song but the creative juices were flowing and instead of using those riffs and leads for “Defiant To The End”, those riffs ended up in a new song called “Trust” instead.
And it was on the back burner again until 4 May 2023. This is when it became my main focus.
I grew up in the 80s and I was inspired by the lyrical messages in songs like “Stand Up And Shout” and “We Rock” from Dio, “SMF”, “I Wanna Rock” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” from Twisted Sister, “I Wanna Be Somebody” from WASP, “You Got Another Thing Comin” from Judas Priest and “Cum On Feel The Noize” from Quiet Riot/Slade.
I found those songs as defiant anthems back then, like a middle finger salute to the establishments.
Even songs like “Working For The Weekend”, “Turn Me Loose”, Smokin In The Boys Room”, “Breaking The Law”, “Metal Health” and “Modern Day Cowboy” had roots in defiance.
And then there is Lemmy from Motörhead. The definition of defiance.
So I wrote and wrote and wrote a lot of lyrics and pulled out lyrics from diaries. Here is a snapshot.

Crank it.
