It started out as music only. I was listening to a lot of pop music at the time. Its actual working title was “MarsHeavenShipsPreach”.

The first draft was written and recorded on 27 May 2022. Although I was listening to pop music, the style of the song is basically a hard rock song.

And the draft sat with me for a few months. And I kept listening to it. 

On 12 September 2022, I did a change to the structure and added some more melodies. This became the final musical version you now hear.

I had no lyrics and I had no idea at the time that it would become the third part of “Doomsday Clock”.

So I started to look through my various lyric books and diaries that go back to 1998. The themes started to all fit in with “Doomsday Clock”.

The “Countdown” lyrics were written on 23 June 2008 and they provided the first lyrical draft with the lines;

The Chorus hook came in March 2024. 

The first Chorus draft had the words;

No more running, 
No more hiding
Tick tock tock (x2)
A reminder of the fight 
Lurking in the night

Some random lyrics written on 23 February 2024 gave me the lines, “I can’t control what happens to me, but I can control how I interpret and respond”.

Of course these were morphed and adjusted to suit the syllables needed.

By 25 March 2024, I had the first new draft of Tick Tock written.

Then I came across a diary from 2011 and I had a song written there called “Conversations With My Sanity”. 

And it had the lines; “Hello it’s me”…

Another rewrite on 17th May 2024, gave me the final lyrical version.
