I like the groove. I call it the “WTLB Groove”, which basically stands for “When The Levee Breaks”. It’s that heavy blues rock, 12/8 feel that I like. It was a very common groove in the 70s and it started to get lost from the 80s onwards. It wasn’t exactly MTV friendly so I can see why it was forgotten.

I created the first musical draft on Friday, 9 July 2021. Its working title was “PSYDAWN”. The PSY was for the psychedlic feel it had and the DAWN was there for the heaviness of the morning. I am not a morning person at all. I do my best work after i have rested. After the first draft, the song just sat there.

It was re-worked musically on 26 October 2023, 29 Novemeber 2023 and various dates in December 2023. By the end of year, I had the music all complete. During this period, the guts of the song remained the same, however a whole new intro was added.

In January 2024, I started to focus on writing the lyrics.

I had lyrics for a song called “The Story Is Different” from 31 May 2021 and lyrics from another song I had called “When Things Aren’t Going Your Way” from 20 August 2021.

These two sets of songs gave me the lyrical lines of “I close my eyes and take a breath, I’m finding minutes for myself”.

I also had another song called “Home” from 14 July 2023, which gave me the lyrical lines of “whatever you hear about me, please believe it / I longer have the time to explain myself / and if you want you can add more to my story, i don’t care”.

On January 2, 2024 the first full lyrical version was completed with the title “The Story Is Different”. The Chorus hook/lyrics (shown below) are not in the final version.

I had another song called “Sh!t” written on 27 December 2013. The message/chorus hook of the song was “what people say, it dont mean shit to me, i know what i am, i am what i see”. And that message RESONATED with me. But I wasn’t smart enough to pick up on the title of “Resonate” just yet.

The title came on 3 January 2024. I was playing around with a chorus that had the words, “In the silence, hear the echoes, resonate, my own beliefs” and an alternate chorus that went like this;

“I resonate love and hate, and it’s too late for apologies”

Another title I was working with was “Reverberate” and “Hear The Echoes” as I had already used “In The Silence“.

Some minor lyrical re-writes happened in April and May 2024, and the only thing that got used from those lyrics are the lines “The sun sets and my eyes adjust / and I’m thinking what I shouldn’t”.

So from all of the re-writes and the tearing apart of other songs, here is the final lyrical version for RESONATE.
